The 5 Major Rules For Posting Photos
By Erika Ettin
What’s the first thing you look at in an online dating profile? I’ll give you a sec. It’s no secret that it’s the pictures! When it comes to online dating, having great photos makes all the difference. Let’s look at the five rules of thumb for your online dating profile pictures:
1. Get a nice head shot... and say cheese!
If you don't have at least one clear head shot, your profile may suggest that you're either hiding something or couldn't find a friend to snap a quick shot! And smile!
2. Less is more.
Some online dating sites allow six photos, some 12 and some 26! While I'm sure your recent vacation to Hawaii was lovely, your online dating profile is not the place to show the whole album. Three to five photos will get the job done.
3. It's best to be alone.
You're already being compared to others on the site, so don't give someone the chance to compare you to the other people in your own profile... or not even figure out which person you are in the photo! In the end, people are interested in seeing who is going to show up on a date and nothing more.
4. Do something interesting.
Maybe you play the piano. Maybe you're the next great beer producer. Whatever it is, showing someone a unique or interesting photo of you gives people the "in" they needed to strike up a conversation.
5. And lastly, tell the truth.
Unfortunately, it happens all too often that you'll meet your date, and the person looks nothing like his or her photos. For that reason, in addition to the headshot, I also recommend a full-body shot to give someone a sense of your physique in addition to your face.
Using these five rules of thumb will help to make sure you’re putting your best foot forward online.
