What Senior Daters Need To Know About Posting Awesome Photos

Make a good impression with a great photo

By Ken Solin

When dating online, your profile photos are key in making a good first impression. Even if you have the best-written profile it won’t matter if your photos don’t attract attention. To make sure you are on top of things, just follow these tips:

First Impressions

Your online profile is your personal menu, and your photo is the first item daters notice on your menu. It typically determines whether or not someone reads your profile. Be sure to have a number of photos to choose from and never settle on one that’s less than perfect. Better yet, choose pictures that show what you like to do. It could be fishing, cooking or even reading a book. The idea is to give daters a better understanding of who you are. Ask a friend to help you pick a few photos if you’re not sure.

Professional Photos Not Required

It’s not necessary to hire a professional photographer as the shots tend to look stiff or staged and if they’re airbrushed your date won’t be grateful when you meet in person. The best photos are casual candid shots taken by a friend who knows your best features. Photos should be under a year old and I urge online daters to switch out their main photo every few months to freshen their profile. Members typically get a slew of emails after posting new photos.

What’s Appropriate

Post at least one full-length photo inside. This applies to both men and women. Online daters want to see the entire person. It’s okay to post several photos but refrain from group shots with an arrow or photos shot at a distance.

Don’t forget to smile

Classic Mistakes

There are a few classic mistakes you don’t want to make. Never wear a hat or sunglasses, and don’t post photos taken in shadows. They suggest you don’t want daters to see what you look like. The entire point of posting photos is to portray you accurately. If your profile pictures are of poor quality, senior daters will typically pass your profile.

This may sound obvious but lots of seniors post photos with their arm around someone of the opposite sex, which is a mistake even if he or she is a friend. Why create any doubt about your availability?

Smile, Smile, Smile

Senior Online Dating Photos

Every senior’s smiling photo is appealing. It’s a big mistake to post a main photo in which you’re not smiling. Smiling people look happy, healthy, optimistic, and upbeat. A smile is inviting. Look like you’re a single senior who’s ready to go out and have fun. Don’t expect online daters to see the real you through a marginal photo. They won’t and you’ll have wasted a perfect opportunity. Smiling makes choosing you easier. Smiling makes people smile back.

Highlight Your Best Assets

Few seniors resemble the man or woman they were twenty years ago, and trying to look much younger isn’t really the point anyway. You want to look youthful, not young. How you look is what catches the attention of online daters.

Formalwear isn’t your best choice for a main photo but it’s okay for a backup inside. Senior guys should skip the T Shirts and shorts and wear a sport shirt and jeans instead. And don’t post a business photo from your company’s brochure as your main pic. Sports activity clothing works for secondary photos. Senior single women who dress in casual, well-fitting clothing are attractive. Whimsical photos in costumes are okay but not as a main photo.
