6 Easy Steps to Help You Fall in Love Online in 2016
By Erika Ettin
Many of us are prone to making grandiose New Year’s resolutions. We all want to lose weight, get organized and spend less money. And yes, we also want to fall in love.
Ready to put love at the top of your list? These 6 easy tips will help you finally cross of at least one of your New Year’s resolutions and fall in love, online, in 2016.
1.Sign Up to an Online Dating Site
Taking the first step to making the most out of your dating life is really that simple. Online dating sites offer an easy, affordable way to meet people these days. Plus, most of them offer free sign-up and browsing, and great features to help you make the whole online dating experience a great experience. So, if haven’t already signed up, now’s the time to join. It’s all about New Year, New You, right?
2. Get Going and Message New People
Being proactive is what really matters. Simply putting a profile up and then just waiting around is like walking into a bar, sitting on a stool, and not talking to anyone. It’s just not going to work.
If you want to get noticed, it’s time to take control. Clean up, or fill out, that dating profile to highlight your best features and start sending those notes to people you find interesting.
3. Keep Your Online Profile Updated
I’m talking about both your online dating profile and your overall dating strategy for the new year. Make sure to change your profile every so often. Start with the small things - add a new movie you or hobby you like and shows off your personality.
Also, re-read your initial description and see if it still describes you. Do this with everything on your profile. Are your photos recent? Do they send the right message? Perhaps you’d like to see how others react if you focus on a totally different aspect of your life first?
4. Go Out at Least Once a Month
The more events you go to, the more people you’re likely to meet, including a potential mate. Every city has its own social calendar. Check yours out to see which events sound the most interesting to you and make sure to mark it down in your calendar so you’ll have no excuses not to go. If you’re shy, get a friend to come along who can be your wing-person for the night.
5. Talk to at Least One New Person at Every Event
It’s nice to have a friend in tow in case you don’t see anyone you like or feel scared to talk to someone, but I strongly encourage you to break out of your comfort zone this year and meet someone new. You never know where you’ll make a connection. In fact, I once dated someone I met in the hallway at jury duty because we both dared to meet someone new that day.
6. Give One Person you Normally Wouldn’t Consider Going Out with a Chance
How many people do you know who end up with a partner who they “would have never dreamed of being with?” I know a lot. Why not give yourself a chance to have that story? You never know if you’ll have chemistry (what I call the “wild card”) until you meet in person.
So, simply stating, "I am going to fall in love this year" may be too hard, but taking these steps to get you date-ready in 2016 will give you the confidence to know that you put the effort in and worked toward your goal.
Ready to take the first step? Whether you prefer Match, OurTime, EliteSingles, or one of the other top 10 best online dating sites, it’s time to stop talking and start taking action. Sign up for online dating today, you never know who’s waiting to fall in love with you on the other side of that screen.
