Dating Horrors which make Halloween Seem Tame!
By Top10BestDatingSites Staff
I can’t be the only one who feels a little shiver down my spine as October starts drawing to a close. While during the daylight hours I smile at friendly jack o’ lanterns in neighborhood windows when the night arrives, I start feeling somewhat different. Moving Skeletons hang from tree sand my doorbell rings off the hook with faceless kids who seem too old to Trick or Treat, demanding candy and shrieking with noises too ghost-like to simply be excitement. Personally, I’d rather turn off all the lights to avoid the giggling crowds, and simply get an early night. Wake me up when October ends.
I know, Bah Humbug. But if like me, you need a little distraction from the horrors of Ol’ Hallows Eve, join me on a diverting trip of slightly different frights, a little more earthly this time around, but just as spooky.
Dating: it’s all
Scare Fair Game
You only have to look at the success stories pages of the top online dating websites to see that in 9 cases out of 10, you can’t beat the diversity and excitement of searching for romance online.
Websites such as EliteSingles boast 2000 new happy couples a month, and match.com have submissions for their success stories pages faster than they can update it! But like everything in life, it’s the exception which proves the rule, and we’ve found some pretty crazy online dating horrors which should be making Halloween seem pretty tame!
Fear Here We Go!
Sometimes you don’t even need to get to the meet up before things start getting a little freaky. If you receive a "message asking if [you] could wear a pair of socks for 2-3 months without washing them and give them back" from a potential match, most people aren’t in a hurry to schedule in date#1.
We all like a profile that shows a great sense of humor, and most singles will admit they’re waiting for someone to make them laugh before they schedule a meet. But this one woman who “thought it would be funny, before our first meeting, to call me at 7:00 am and pretend to be an Asian massage parlor shaking me down for money” probably went a little too far.
In this day and age, a quick Google search isn’t out of the question before you head out on a first date, but most of us simply end up reading a few Facebook posts written under the influence and perhaps realizing their date shared a little too much on their college blog. Not quite the same for this lucky lady, who writes: "Turns out my potential online date murdered his father when he was a teenager, and as a cover-up, had concocted a complicated plot involving a foreign assassin… My date was ultimately convicted of involuntary manslaughter." Cue a sudden headache for the evening. Rain check? No thanks.
Humor aside now, most times we don’t really have an idea who is the person behind that interesting dating profile. If you want to feel extra secure that your match is being upfront with you, try a dating site which offers extra verification tools, such as Zoosk with their innovative seven second selfie videos.
Love at First
If you do make it to a real-life meetup try to avoid the bad luck these dates had.
This guy for example, was really excited to meet a woman who he’d hit it off with online. When she showed up though, she “was eight-and-a-half months pregnant. She never mentioned that prior to our meeting … I asked what she was doing on a blind date when she was going to give birth in two weeks [and] she said: ‘The baby has me; I want someone.’ Probably best to be honest about something like that ladies, especially if you might start having contractions on the actual date!
Our #1 tip for avoiding an online dating horror story -make sure your date is not on the rebound! And if they are, get out fast. After all, you don’t want to end up like this unfortunate woman who actually agreed to drive her date’s girlfriend to work for him. Um, that’s one of those times you don’t have to say yes to be polite, lady.
Feeling scared yet? Well don’t! Sure, we’ve all gone on unsuccessful dates, sometimes things just don’t click. But the numbers don’t lie, 20% of current committed relationships begin online and even if you’ve had a bad experience, it only takes meeting the right match to join the 71% of people who believe in love at first sight with matchmaking websites such as Professional Match.
