The 10 Best Halloween Date Ideas

It’s that time of year again! The flannel plaids and Ugg boots are on full display, pumpkin spice lattes are back on the menu (much to my dismay… I’m not ready!), and the leaves are slowly starting to change colors.

All this, of course, can mean only one thing— Halloween is right around the corner! Whether you’re a sucker for all things spooky, or would rather just lay low for a night, All Hallow’s Eve is actually a great time for the first date… or the one hundred and first. Here are ten ideas of what to do to make the most of it:

1. Scope out a haunted house or hayride. Either is the perfect opportunity to cling tight to your date or snuggle in close. Plus, you’ll get a good idea of how they respond in stressful situations! I don’t know about you, but those goblins freak me out every time.

2. Pick pumpkins together, then head back home to carve them. Scooping out Jack-o-Lanterns is tough work, so when you get hungry, whip up one of these yummy pumpkin dishes or roast the seeds for a crunchy snack.

3. Curl up with a scary movie. Some light-hearted ideas: Hocus Pocus, Ghostbusters, Casper, or maybe Young Frankenstein in honor of the late Gene Wilder. Miss him.

4. Hit up a brewery/winery and sample their fall selections. A lot of brands make a pumpkin-flavored something, whether ale, cider, or another concoction to get you snockered.

5. Enter a costume contest at a local bar or club, then spend an afternoon scheming up the winning design and creating it. Feel free to steal one of these clever costume ideas if you and your partner are game.

6. Not feeling all that adventurous? Stock up on Halloween treats and hand them out to trick-or-treaters. Play a game to see who can correctly guess the most number of costumes. Alternatively, dress up like zombies a la The Walking Dead and take turns scaring kids as they come up to the door.

7. Put your Boy Scout skills to good use and build a bonfire. Sit around with blankets, roast marshmallows for s’mores, and tell ghost stories (or recount all of your childhood Halloween costumes…those are always entertaining!).

8. If you’re a little shy and want to “feel things out” with your date in a group setting, host a Halloween-themed party! Don’t forget the creative desserts and festive drinks.

9. Would rather nerd out than pig out? Take a historical tour of your city (or even better, a ghost tour!), and learn something new. Even if you’re a native, there’s so much to learn.

10. If you’re channeling Indiana Jones more than Count Dracula, check out a local Escape Room. You and your partner can work on your communication and logic skills to solve clues and find your way out of a room before the clock runs out.

One more thing: If you’re curious to know what your Halloween costume says about you, look no further!
